The workshop was cool, definitely not as good as montreal, but it was worthwhile either way. The party in the beginning was a waste of time in my opinion, but i know enough people would like it so whatever... It was very disorganized, there was hardly a schedule at all, even some instructors didnt know what was going on... A lot of the demos were of things id seen at montreal, and they explained what they were doing a lot better then. There were a lot of good parts about it though, Jon foster's painting was excellent, hpx did some great speed paintings, I got to see Milligan's demo this time, Jon Muellers presentation was very worth hearing, inspiring, and informative. All in all i feel like it was worth going for the inspiration, but i wont go to another one until they bring in some really new things and instructors. Im sure italy will be cool, but i doubt i'll make it there.. anyway, here's some sketches i did:

This Week's Workshop---

So I caught this week's workshop here in Santa Rosa. It was fun, not too crowded and only 7 bucks to get in...
This week I gotta turn in the pieces for the show to benefit the venue we draw at. More details on that later.....

They Beat Me....

Earlier this year I applied for an art grant through the local arts guild. I enjoyed the experience of it, and coming up with new paintings for it, but I didn't win. Here are the folks who did. Make of it what you will, draw your own conclusions:

A sidenote for those that will care - guess who I heard from on msn messenger the other day? Daisuke! And guess what's new with him?? He's getting married! To a comic book artist there in Japan. Knowing who he goes for, I bet she's hot. Best of luck to him, but who'da thought?

life drawing

Doing illustrations is fun and all, but I have the most fun by far drawing and painting figures. More can be found here:
I may put one of these and others I've done there at a show to benefit the venue. More details later if anything develops.

A Raccoon Ate My Venetian Red!

Imagine my surprise and the hate I had for this animal when I saw the mess it made. I have a cat who for whatever reason was scared to sleep in our garage for months, when she used to sleep in there all the time. We then found out that a foreign animal was making visits to the house. My dad set up a trap to catch it, and it worked. Unfortunately, it was too close to my bag where i keep my paints and other supplies. Well in all its thrashing and desperation it decided to tear through some of my paint tubes.

The big red mess it made:

It must have ingested a lot of it, cuz here's the big red shit it took:

Here's the poor bastard in its cage:

My dad ended up setting it out in a deserted field. The poor thing probably won't last long with all that oil paint all over it...

Another reason to go digital.....

Apple Cinema!

Having a dual-monitor setup now, I tell ya, it's so nice and convenient. Do it, if you can.
To give you an idea of how sweet this monitor is, check out the pics...

My old trusty CRT, a Dell something-or-other, i got it second-hand to begin with, you could tell by the Kendall-Jackson Winery Help Desk stick it has on it...

The spiffy new Apple Cinema:

And here's the real kicker, viewing 'em side by side:

Ugh, the old crt disgusts me, I can't stand to look at it anymore. I hate it so much I'm deciding on what LCD I'm gonna replace it with. I'm leaning towards the 17" Dell Ultrasharp... yeah that sounds nice.
