Luminian + Safehouse Show Four

Hey everyone, here is another piece from the "Natural Patterns" series.

This painting is water-mixable oils on watercolor paper. It's a fun medium to work with, but only if you treat it like another water-based medium, NOT like traditional oils. It was a medium I had completely dismissed back in the day when I was still really learning to paint, but it was because I was trying to use it just like oils. It feels and acts much more like acrylics, especially when thinned out. You can get a nice sheen to it if you build it up and use the linseed oils made for it.

"Luminian," 26.5x17 inch water-mixable oils on watercolor paper mounted on board.

Super stoked to have this piece showing alongside some of my favorite San Fran artists and peeps at the Safehouse Studios show this Friday!

You're going to want to go, because you are going to get an unbelievable deal on it, but only for the one night it's up. It's gonna be so good, you're going to have to go see it in person!

From 7:00pm till 10:00pm - Friday March 23rd

The Safehouse Studios
80 Langton, San Francisco, CA 94103

What brand of water miscible oils did you use? Have you tried Cobra's line of water mixable oils? They feel more like traditional oils than the other brands I've used... at least to me.

Like it...its nice to experiment. Have seen the late works of J.M.W.Turner (colour beginnings)..They are a bit rare but reall interesting...Good to see your work...all the best Denis

John, I use Holbein Duo oils. Part of the problem with what I was doing before was using Artisan oils which are awful. I've never even heard of Cobra's, I'll have to look into it.

Denis - I don't know if it's sacrilege to say, but I've never been a big fan of Turner's, especially the late works. I much prefer his earlier works.

Lovely painting. Best of luck at the show.

Sergio, I followed the same path. I tried Artisan and hated them. Then I picked up some Holbein Duos. Here's a link to the product I'm talking about:
